New Project Room

At 2020:0202:2020, Ronnie Culliton, Chair of the Board of Management, officially opened the new Project Room at the College, wishing the students and staff many years of learning and enjoyment, availing of the upgraded and exciting learning space.

As all gathered were delighted to see the room completed, the students were enjoying various activities, and it was easy to see how this room will be put to great use. Paints and consultancy advice sponsored by Second Year Mum, Aileen Hogan @, and Fleetwood Paints.

The Project Room upgrade was completed from the funds raised at the 2019 Gala Ball. Ms. Catherine Smyth, Deputy Principal, thanked the Parents’ Association Committee, and Gala Ball Working Group for all involved in organising the Ball, funding, renovating and kitting out the room.

Commemorating Dom Malachy Thompson’s Ordination

This afternoon’s presentation to commemorate Dom Malachy’s Ordination took place on the College grounds. Attended by members of the Monastic Community, Staff, Parents and Students, proceedings commenced with a tree-planting ceremony. The significance of the  young oak tree being planted near the location of the longstanding great old oak was likened to the new generation Cistercian College, and Dom Malachy was congratulated on his tremendous work in leading the Monastic Community and supporting the College, maintains strong links between all on the campus.
In Blessing the tree, Dom Malachy acknowledged its symbolism, and the importance of our responsibility to protect the environment and reduce the destruction of our wonderful world. He thanked the Parents Association Committee, its Chair, Inez Heenan and Secretary, Martin Mullen, for organising the event as well as all the parents and students of the College.
Transition Year students made 2 presentations to Dom Malachy and Special thanks was given to Egan Stone for donating the lovely plinth.
Mr. Grealish congratulated Dom Malachy, and also thanked him for his great co-operation and friendship to all at the College, also thanking the PAC and Parent body for their ongoing support.

Some stories of the great old oak were exchanged and the occasion closed with refreshments served in the Centenary Room, thanks to Catherine Scott.
Thanks also goes to Mr. Gary Halpin, Mr. Paddy Smyth, Ms. Aileen Spillane and Ms. Geraldine Edwards, who liaised on the project.

Welcome Walk

September’s inaugural Welcome Walk of the Cistercian College and Monastery grounds, farm, and orchard, as well as a tour of the Monastery Library was a great success.

Organised by the Parents Association Committee, this was a lovely opportunity for many friends of the College; new and longstanding, to enjoy a guided tour of the beautiful campus, given by Dom Malachy, Fr. Lawrence, and House Master, Paddy Smyth.

All were welcomed by Catherine Smyth, especially the new parents and students of CCR, while Inez Heenan thanked those who made the day possible, and especially Conor Brady, President of the PPU, and his wife, Mary, for attending.

Lovely Refreshments were served by Catherine Scott and her catering team, and a good number finished by attending Vespers and Benediction in the Monastery Church.
