An exciting development at Cistercian College. After much careful thought and planning, we are delighted to announce that we will begin an engagement with our staff, parents and the wider CCR family, on a proposal to transition from being an all-boys boarding school to a co-educational institution as of September 2026.
This ambitious initiative would aim to offer day boarding to girls entering 1st year/Transition Year and 5th Year but with the longer-term objective to expand to a full day and boarding service for both girls and boys across junior and senior cycles by 2030.This decision has been made in response to evolving educational trends, the needs of our community, and our ongoing commitment to providing a world-class education that prepares all students for success in an increasingly diverse and interconnected world. We fully understand that this transition may raise some questions, and we want to reassure you that we are committed to introducing this change in a considered and responsible manner.
We were founded over 120 years ago. Over that time the College has had a profound impact on the country, local communities and families. Young men have been sent out into the world, with a shared sense of faith, ethos and striving to achieve, to reach their potential and indeed to push beyond. More recently we have grown our enrolment, year on year, with our current 1st year having achieved the largest number in some years. We have made great progress inside and outside the classroom, ensuring the College is well-prepared for the future. To properly serve the community, we must now include the whole family in our offering. Cistercian College has to be a place where all the family can strive to achieve and to progress in a faith- filled, caring and nurturing home away from home.
Over the coming months, we will be sharing more information about the process, including how we intend to integrate the new students into our school community, how the transition will affect our existing students, and what steps we will take to ensure that Cistercian College remains a nurturing and high-performing environment for all students, in the classroom, on the sports fields and in the music halls, regardless of gender.
We are happy to engage with you on this new initiative and we encourage you to share any thoughts or concerns you may have. Your support and understanding during this time of change are invaluable to us and we are excited to move forward with you as partners in this new chapter for Cistercian College.
Thank you for your continued trust in us. We look forward to working together to ensure that our school remains a vibrant and welcoming community for all students.
