German Debating

The German debating team took part in the third round of the All-Ireland Debating Competition (the final 16 teams) on Friday 25th January against a very good opposition from CBC Cork. The debate was held in the beautiful Glucksmann Library in the University of Limerick.

The CCR team had to oppose the motion Der Ausverkauf unserer Privatsphäre bringt Vorteile (The selling of our privacy has advantages). The team was captained by Lorcan McDonnell (6th Year), and our three speakers were Jack Gilligan (5th Year), Manus Heenan (5th Year) and Sean Clancy (6th Year).  Each speaker presented his own arguments for three minutes and then rebutted arguments from the opposition team.  All three adjudicators found in favour of our side of the motion and so the team is now through to the All-Ireland Quarter-Final on 4th March.
