Three of our 1st year athletes competed in the Leinster Athletics Combined Events held recently in the National Athletics centre in Abbottstown.

Robert Carney had an outstanding day and earned a gold medal having topped the leader board with his combined scores in the Long Jump, Shot Putt, 60M Hurdles, 200M and 800M. Robert will now go on to compete in the All-Ireland finals in Athlone in three weeks’ time.

Fionn Carney (Robert’s twin) and Sam Cusack put in very strong performances to finish in the middle of the field. A special mention for Joe Finn who was unable to compete in the event due to injury.

This is one of the highest profile events in the schools athletics calendar and we are very proud of all three boys who represented our College on the day. Congratulations to their families and we wish Robert every success in Athlone.
